The shadow is the unknown side of ourselves—those propensities for murder, rape, theft, or other things you think you can never do, which you’ve lately witnessed others doing, prompting reconsideration of your assumptions. It is a difficult and heavy task to face how cruel the world can be. Believe me, I've been there. But there is no going back. Go forward. Know that there is light even in the darkest place—nay, even mere 'light'; for the brightest of lights are found in the darkest places. You know very well that bright places (your home) are full of mere reflections of light (Christ). Therefore, drink the bitter cup of Truth. Venture into the dark forest. Learn to distinguish the Wolf (deceptive evil pretending to be good) from your grandmother (the true good). Read The Rape of Nanking, The Gulag Archipelago, watch documentaries about Unit 721, read other books like them (some of which I forgot), and if you are strong-hearted, read/watch/research about the Russian woman trapped in her basement for 26 years. But if you are soft, if you cannot handle the truth, withdraw to your cave now, lest the truth blinds you. It is up to you brad.
